A Very Brief History of Jive Slang

Jive slang originated in the African-American community in the 1930s and 1940s, influenced by jazz and blues music.

It was used as a form of secret communication to avoid being understood by outsiders, and was heavily influenced by African-American vernacular English.

The term "jive" itself originated in the 1930s, and the slang continued to evolve and spread throughout the black community, eventually gaining mainstream popularity in the 1950s and 1960s.
